Sunstates Welcomes Michael Nail
as Regional Director
A tenured security professional with 38+ years of combined military, law enforcement and contract security experience, Michael joined Sunstates in 2021 as a Regional Director based out of our Charlotte office. Beginning his career in the United States Army, he served as an Airborne Infantry Sergeant, Squad Leader at Fort Bragg, NC. Michael spent 12 years in law enforcement following his military service. He was first assigned to a high-profile university campus and later became a Police Shift Commander and Crime Prevention Officer for the Archdale Police Department.
In 2009 he made a career shift to the private sector, serving as a corporate security manager for a Fortune 500 retailer. His combined law enforcement and internal corporate security management experience provided him with a solid foundation and unique perspective on the security field. He went on to serve in several positions of escalating responsibility for a global security provider. In his most recent role before joining Sunstates, Michael served as Senior Vice President for the Carolinas with a team of direct reports including directors of operations, human resources, recruiting and company policy, and responsibility for a territory including 3,000+ security officers and 140 company police officers.
Michael’s Education/Certifications
Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration and Management and is a CPCC Emergency Services Senior Management Academy graduate. Additionally, he has the prestigious designations of Certified Protection Professional and Certified Executive Protection Professional through ASIS International. He is an active member in several professional associations to including ASIS on the national and local level, FBI InfraGard Program, and the Charlotte Center City Public Safety Council.
A proven leader with a strong track record of performance in fast-paced environments and a wealth of security knowledge, he is a valuable member of the Sunstates management team.
