Jim Bernier- Sunstates Security Regional DirectorAn accomplished professional with the combined military, law enforcement, and private security experience, Jim joined Sunstates Security in 2021 as a Regional Director. In his role as Director, Jim will oversee a portfolio of clients and operational assets across the states of western North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee, and will directly support five Regional Managers and their operations teams.

Jim’s Background

Jim began his security career in the military as a Communications Specialist and Reconnaissance Team Operator in the US Marines. After serving two tours of duty and leaving the military as a decorated combat veteran, he transferred his experience and training to a career in law enforcement with the Hartford, CT Police Department. During his tenure, Jim oversaw multiple investigative units, commanded the Emergency Response Team (SWAT), and was recognized with the Harford Police Department’s Distinguished Service Medal. He retired as a Captain after 20 years of service and transitioned his career trajectory to contract security. After making the switch to the private sector, he held several roles to include the Security Director of a large health care organization, Security Consultant, and member of the City of Bristol (Connecticut) Police Commission. In his most recent role prior to joining Sunstates Security, Jim served as a Regional Operations Manager for a Connecticut-based security provider, responsible for management and operation of two Regional Offices in support of clients spanning multiple vertical markets from military installations to higher education.

Security Expertise

The variety of Jim’s experience spanning military, law enforcement and contract security provides him with a broad spectrum of knowledge and a unique perspective on our industry. In addition to his hands-on experience, he studied Criminal Investigations and Police Administration at Central Texas College and earned the prestigious ASIS International Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation. His extensive knowledge base combined with strong executive management and problem-solving capabilities makes him exceptionally well-suited for his Regional Director role and a valued member of the Sunstates Security management team.
